Joe Blanton Placed on 15 Day DL; Phillies Call Up Worley

Posted on May 7, 2011

Joe Blanton has been placed on the 15 day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

Blanton will now join the disabled list with various oitchers on the team including, Jose Contreras, Brad Lidge, and J.C Romero.

In five starts this season, Blanton is 0-1 with a 5.72 ERA. But in his last two starts, he has given up just two runs, earning the no-decision each time.

Due to his absence, the Phillies called up young pitcher, Vance Worley and he will get the start tonight against the New York Mets. This will be a nice test for Worley to see how he pitches against our division rival.

But in other news (which is actually good for a change), Carlos Ruiz is not expected to be placed on the DL.
