Jose Contreras Placed on 15-Day DL with a Strained Right Elbow

Just when things were looking great for the Phillies after pulling out the brooms on the Padres, the steering wheel shift gears and played bad on us.

Jose Contreras, who has been the Phillies red-hot closer lately, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained elbow.

Now since Contreras is hurt, Charlie Manuel has turned to Ryan Madson as the new closer. There have been times before where Madson could not handle the closing job, but something tells me that he might do a solid job stepping up for Contreras.

While the Phillies continue their road trip on a three game series in Arizona, Contreras will be on his way back to Philly to see the team doctor, Michael Ciccotti.

Contreras was perfect in saves (5/5) and has not given up a run all season.

To fill the roster spot, the Phillies brought up relief pitcher, Michael Stutes from AAA Lehigh Valley. Stutes is said to have lots of potential is in discussion to be permanent closer down the road. This will be a great experience to see what he can do and to observe his talent in the majors.
