Roy Oswalt Leaves Phillies Because of Tornado

Posted on May 7, 2011

After having a bad outing against the Diamondbacks, Roy Oswalt left the game early and it was reported that he left the clubhouse immediately.

It was then leaked today that Oswalt would leave the Phillies for a little bit because of “personal reasons”. It turns out that a tornado struck in the area of his house in Mississippi and he just wants to check on his family.

In fact, there were reported deaths and injuries from the area.

General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. came out and spoke on the situation stating, “He has chosen to take time to make sure there wasn’t significant damage to his home, but more importantly, to make certain that his wife and children are OK.”

He later went on to say that they wish to have him back by his next start, but for now he referred to that issue saying they will have to “take that day by day.”

At least we now know what actually happened. Now all we can hope for is the well being of Oswalt’s family and his return to the team.
